Craigard House Hotel, Campbeltown

A warm welcome awaits you at the Mull of Kintyre. Craigard House Hotel occupies an imposing position overlooking Campbeltown Loch (already two famous songs – and this is only the first paragraph!).

A recently converted Victorian mansion with an interesting and varied history, the Craigard House Hotel offers a friendly and informal stay, in thirteen comfortable and well-appointed rooms – most with glorious sea views.  The hotel still retains many original features, such as the ornate cornice-work on the ceilings, and the painted glass windows.

There is much to do locally, with two World Class Classic Links Golf Courses to choose from - Machrihanish GC is a classic World Top 100 course, with arguably the best first hole in the world (guests of this hotel benefit from 10% discount on Green Fees); while Machrihanish Dunes GC is a newly opened course designed by a World Top 40 designer (Bandon Dunes, Oregon; Castle Course, St Andrews). Along with Dunaverty GC; various watersports; hiking the Kintyre Way; Distillery visits; The Owl Centre there is plenty to keep you occupied – if you can tear your eyes away from the wonderful scenery...

Carraig sits on the shores of the Atlantic in Machrihanish, a small village on the Kintyre Peninsular within a short drive of the famous Mull of Kintyre.  Access from the back garden leads directly onto the beach with spectacular views and sunsets with a wealth of different sea birds and wildlife literally on the doorstep.

Although the house dates from 1882, within the guest rooms, however, everything is right up to date - every room having a fully tiled en suite bathroom, with bathtub and shower. There is also free WiFi in all rooms and public areas, and a free broadband PC and printer for guest use.

Each of Craigard's thirteen bedrooms is named after places of interest in the locality. Most of the rooms have stunning sea views over Campbeltown Loch – with our South-facing location offering panoramic vistas of the sunrise and sunset.

Each bedroom is well-appointed, comprising:

  • Individual dιcor and character, with high quality furniture and a warm and welcoming finish

  • Each fully-tiled en-suite bathroom boasts both bath and shower, with heated towel rail

  • Big fluffy bath towels and complimentary Neutrogena cleansing products

  • Bathrobes

  • Comprehensive Welcome Tray with Mineral Waters, various Teas, Coffees, Hot Chocolate and Biscuits.

  • Colour TV with remote control and Freesat Channels. DVD available.

  • Hairdryer

  • Iron and Ironing Board

  • Free wireless internet access in all bedrooms and public rooms.

There are three ground floor rooms, one with ramped entrance and disabled facilities.

The Lochside Restaurant

With its lovely lochside situation, the Restaurant offers excellent views of the busy sea loch, as well as sumptuous local food, imaginatively prepared. We specialise in freshly caught seafood and shellfish – such as Loch Fyne Langoustines & Scallops (also Oysters, Crabs and Lobsters on request); locally landed Halibut, Turbot, Hake, Sea Bass, Cod, Sole & Salmon, as available.  Also locally reared meat and game; as well as cheese, smoked products and fresh produce.   All types of dietary requirement can be catered for.  We look forward to your visit.

The Craigard Lounge and Bar

This comfortable room personifies the country house ambience. Squidgy chairs, books and magazines, some toys & games, and a choice of music and wide-screen TV on tap. Aperitifs and after dinner drinks are enjoyed here, or just spend a peaceful hour with a pot of Afternoon Tea - enjoying the view of the busy sea loch. To complement your food, we have a wide ranging wine list, with many favourites from the Old World and many choices from the New World. Along with a fully stocked bar, there is also a selection of Malt Whiskies from all over Scotland, particularly the West Coast, with emphasis on Campbeltown Distilleries – Springbank and Glen Scotia expressions.

There is ample parking close to the hotel, as well as a large car park to the rear. There is also a disabled parking space.

Our aim is to ensure that Craigard is the Hotel in which we would like to stay – if we were away from home.

We look forward to welcoming you, Roger and Lori
