Campbeltown Pupils reward for last weekend's victory is another home
tie - this time to Uphall Station. The West Lothian side
play in the Edinburgh and Lothian AFA Premier League and are
currently sitting third having won seven, drawn one and lost
two.

4th December 2006 -
Campbeltown Pupils eased into 4th round of Scottish Cup with a
convincing second half performance against Dundee College at
Kintyre Park, Campbeltown.
The men from Tayside had
perhaps the better of the first half exchanges but it was
the locals who led 1-0 thanks to a Gary Grumoli strike.
Further goals by Alan Sinclair
and Grumoli put the game beyond doubt in the second half as
the Pupils commanded the match. The impressive Grumoli
grabbed his hat-trick from the penalty spot (picture)
following a clumbsy challenge on Grant Grant. Young
Grumoli, one of three brothers in the Pupils side, has now
scored an impressive 15 goals this season.

3rd December 2006 -
On
Sunday 26th November swimmers from schools across Argyll and
Bute competed in the Scottish Schools Swimming Trials held
in Aqualibrium. This was the first time this new facility
has been used to host such a competitive swimming event.
The swimming programme had
over 40 events swum on the day ranging from 50 metres events
for 12 years and under through to 400 metres freestyle for
17-19 years.
All of the visiting swimmers
were very impressed with the facilities and set up here in
Aqualibrium in particular with the Daktronics electronic
timing system which was up and running for the first time to
accurately record the swimmers times on the electronic
scoreboard as soon as they finished their event.
A number of swimmers
successfully met the consideration times to swim in the
Scottish Schools Championships next year. Matthew Anderson
from St Columba’s Primary School had an excellent meet
achieving the consideration times over 50 metres in the 12
years and under age group in butterfly, backstroke,
breaststroke and freestyle. Eilidh Muir from Oban High
School had success in the 13/14 years 100 metres backstroke
and frontcrawl as well as the 200 metres individual medley.

Kintyre Canoe club caters for
secondary age school pupils (12+) and adults who meet
separately. At present the junior section meet every
Tuesday evening from 8pm till 9 pm Aqualibrium. It is
great to have indoor training facilities again so that they
can keep going through the winter. It also means that it is
possible to practise skills like Eskimo rolls in a safe
environment. The club is lucky to have full set of
equipment provided by Argyll and Bute Council made up of 10
brand new Revenge Polo Kayaks, 10 paddles and all the other
equipment needed to go with the boats. The young people are
really enjoying the opportunity to use this good quality
gear.

Adults have been meeting weekly
on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for outdoor sessions.
There are many new members who are enjoying the chance to

to taking part in longer sea kayaking trips in the spring and
summer seasons. They are looking forward to
opportunities to experience other disciplines such as canoe
polo, inland kayaking and surf kayaking. Indoor sessions

skills and techniques in the warmth of the swimming pool.
The club welcomes new members
and has equipment to lend out which includes kayaks, paddles,
buoyancy aids, spray sheets, wetsuits and cagoules. They
also have a kayak trailer and are able to get about 16 people
on the water at any one time. Membership cost £15 and

8th June 2006

Thursday 8th June, the official
Centenary was celebrated with a match between the ladies and
the gents on a perfect evening made more perfect by the gents’
victory. Once the match ended it was on with a cheese and wine
evening with an “in house” ceilidh.
Friday was a day of preparing for the big day on Saturday that
saw our Club champion play a challenge match against Scottish
bowling legend Willie Wood MBE, a true gentleman and a credit
to the Gifford club and great ambassador for the game of
bowls. |

It is unlikely that we will
welcome another like Willie through our gates in the next 100
years. It was pleasure to meet you sir, a sentiment that
echoed around the Club! The match was finely poised at 17
shots apiece but was won by Willie with a four shot count in
the last end. President Malcolm Bannatyne presented both
players with commemorative decanters. In his speech, Willie
was fulsome in his praise of both his young opponent and the
superb playing surface on which they performed. Report
