Unfortunately Jamie & David
were not acquainted, and so they endeavoured to get rugby
going from different angles - Jamie got together guys local
to Campbeltown who were happy to train in the town and
travel to Lochgilphead to play for Mid Argyll RFC, and David
approached the SRU for sponsorship to train as a coach and
for help getting rugby promoted in Kintyre. Fortunately the
SRU were aware of both individuals and made sure that an
introduction was made.
Reformation
Once the old committee was
tracked down, administration transferred and a re-election
held the Kintyre Rugby Football Club was reborn. The new
committee is formed as follows:
David Banks President
Marius Huysamer Vice
President
Jamie MacLachlan Coach and
Match Secretary
John Sanderson Treasurer
Sharron Gillies Secretary
Linzi McSporran Events
Organiser
The Club Captain will be
elected on January 11th by the squad & selection panel.
The new committee is very
proactive, and has set itself goals to be achieved during
2007:
1. To establish a Mens 1st
XV, Womens 1st XV, U15's & Mini;s
2. To host a SRU Foundation
Rugby Training Course in Campbeltown at the end of January -
enabling the club to train basic rugby to U15's (we already
have 8 volunteers)
3. To attend the United
Kingdom Coaching Course held during February - enabling the
club to teach contact rugby at all levels (we have 5
volunteers)
4. To promote rugby and
fitness to the schools at both rural/town Primary levels and
to the Grammar School pupils in liason with the Active
Schools Co-ordinator
5. To secure a playing
field in Campbeltown, together with shower/changing
facilities
6. To participate in the
West Highland League
Sponsors
A new playing strip, tackle
bags and rugby balls have been ordered with the financial
donations of our new sponsors.
Our two sponsors have been
very kind and have offered support above and beyond what is
normally expected:
West Coast Motors have
offered help in terms of logistics (getting the players to
games and then back home via the bar)
The Kilbrannan Bar have
offered a home to the Rugby Club, a place where the players,
families and supporters can meet after games - in addition
to hosting parties and events for the club
The local council have been
very supportive in getting the administration sorted out,
and with helping to get the pitch ready for our first League
game at home in March.
Fixtures
The 1st XV have many
friendlies arranged for January & February, the majority
will be played away as the weather during December has meant
that the playing surfaces locally will not be able to
support rugby matches. The first friendly will be against
Islay on the 20th January - enough time for Christmas
dinners and the excesses of New Year to be burnt off in
training.
