18th January 2008 - Campbeltown awarded £700,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund
Thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone working to improve and enhance the heritage of Campbeltown, the town has won a Stage 1 pass worth £700,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards a Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).

This will run side-by-side with the CARS. Development funding of £25,000 will be available over the next 12 months to help build up local construction skills, celebrate Campbeltown’s retail sector and review the conservation area. Five historic buildings, two of which are on the buildings at risk register, have been selected for particular attention as part of the THI scheme: the Old School, Big Kiln Street, the Old Courthouse, Bolgam Street; 13-15 Kirk Street; 50-52 Main Street and the Town Hall.

Grants are also available for building repairs in the town centre (particularly high-level works) and for shop front reinstatement and repair. The first meeting of a local steering group will be held some time in early February. Any group interested in being involved that has not already expressed an interest please contact James on 07900 888784 or james.lafferty@argyll-bute.gov.uk

Campbeltown Hall Hall is just one of five buildings set for a boost.
