Roanna Taylor, Argyll and Bute
Young Scot Co-ordinator, said: “In time everyone will be able
to apply for a card, as Councils across Scotland introduce all
the relevant services.
“Argyll and Bute Council aims to add library membership,
leisure, cashless catering and various other school services
in the future, but to benefit for the Young Persons
Concessionary Travel Scheme, which was announced in August
last year, young people were asked to sign up at the end of
2006.
“The Council offered everyone
the chance to complete a consent form allowing Argyll and Bute
Young Scot to send details held on our database for card
production.
“The consent forms can be
obtained from Young Scot bases and must be returned by Tuesday
30th January.”
Duncan MacIntyre, the
Council’s spokesperson for Roads and Transportation, said:
“Giving young people the opportunity to access public
transport easily is very encouraging.
“The National Entitlement
Card will give them a 33% discount on an adult single fare as
well as a free Scottish Youth Rail Card, which usually costs
£20. This will give young people discounted travel.
“Card holders who live on
Scottish islands will also benefit by getting two free return
journeys to the mainland each year."
